NET-PD LS-1 Parkinson's Disease (PD) Study

Would you like to participate in Huntington's disease (HD) research?

Burton Scott, MD, is conducting a research study in individuals who have HD and their family members.   Individuals of any age who have HD and family members who are 18 and over are eligible to participate .

Do you have Parkinson's disease, motor fluctuations (wearing off), and dyskinesias (writhing/twisting movements)?

Dr. Burton Scott is conducting a research study at Duke University Medical Center of an investigational drug for people with Parkinson's disease.

You must be at least 30 years of age to participate in this study.

Do you have amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or multiple sclerosis (MS) and have a hard time controlling your emotions?

Dr. Richard Bedlack is conducting a research study of an investigational new drug for pseudobulbar affect (PBA), a condition characterized by involuntary and inappropriate outbursts of laughing and/or crying. The outbursts can occur spontaneously or in response to circumstances such as watching a movie.

Dr. Stacy is conducting a study with Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ), a nutritional supplement, to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of high doses of CoQ in slowing down the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

If you have been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease within the last 5 years and are not currently being treated, you may be eligible for this study.

Do you have Parkinson's Disease (PD) and take carbidopa/levodopa?

Dr. Stacy is conducting an 8 week study investigating the effect of an investigational drug on the non-motor symptoms in patients with PD demonstrating non-motor symptoms of wearing off.

You must be between the ages of 30-75 years old to participate.

You may be eligible to participate in this research study at Duke University Medical Center if you take carbidopa/levodopa for symptoms of Parkinson's disease and you have non-motor symptoms before it is time for your next dose such as:

-Tiredness

-Restlessness

-Slowness in thinking

-Anxiety

-Mood changes

-Pain

-Sweating

This research study involves an FDA approved medication. There will be approximately 5 scheduled clinic visits over a 2-3 month period.

If you are healthy, or have been diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS) you may qualify to be in a research study that Dr. Bedlack is conducting.

You must be at least 40 years old to participate, and be willing to donate blood and possible spinal fluid.

Do you or a family member suffer from Alzheimer's Disease?

  • Duke University Medical Center is conducting a research study to determine if an investigational drug is safe and effective in the treatment of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease.

If you are at least 55 years old and have mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, you may be able to participate in this research study.  Females of child-bearing potential are not eligible for this study. 

This study will consist of approximately 20 clinic visits over 22 months.  You may receive compensation for your participation in the study.
