How to Apply

Prerequisites to Training in Adult Neurology

Internal medicine experience (a PGY-1 year) is a prerequisite to PGY-2 training in neurology. Requirements are determined by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology . We encourage applicants to plan at least one year of internal medicine training because of the need for a strong general medical background in neurology practice. All Duke internal medicine preliminary year slot applications are done through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). Medical internship can be completed through the excellent program at Duke or elsewhere. The medicine program interviews can be coordinated with the neurology interview day.

Neurology Program Interviews

Neurology Residency Program interviews are granted after a completed application is reviewed by the Residency Selection Committee. This year we will be using the Electronic Residency Application Service. If you have any questions regarding your application, you may contact Ms. Gina Murray, Administrator, Neurology Training Programs, Box 3637, Durham, North Carolina 27710. Phone #: (919) 684-5870.

We encourage you to submit your application early as our interview slots are limited. Our deadline for receiving applications from ERAS is October 12, 2007. We will have 4-interview days; November 27 and 29 and December 6 and 13, 2007.  The day includes short interviews with multiple faculty, a tour of Duke Hospital, lunch with the residents, and faculty presentations on subspecialty interests within the Division of Neurology. The normal interview day lasts from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

One Pediatric Neurology position is available per year and the first year of that residency is Adult Neurology (apply through the Division of Pediatric Neurology, Department of Pediatrics).
